“RAYVILLE power couple named top young farmers”

NEW ORLEANS—Dustin and Ashley Morris of Richland Parish were named the top young farming couple in Louisiana at the Farm Bureau Federation convention.

Dustin, a fourth-generation farmer, and Ashley, daughter of 5th District U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham, R-Alto, won the Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award at the convention, the largest gathering of producers in the state.

Ashley’s congressman father also has farming interests, sitting on the House Agriculture Committee. “It’s a huge honor to be able to represent our state on a national stage,” said Dustin Morris, 32, who is also a national champion rifleman.

Ronnie Anderson, president of the Louisiana Farm Bureau, described the Morrises as one of Louisiana’s agriculture power couples. “Dustin and Ashley represent the best of not only agriculture, but Louisiana as a whole,” Anderson said. “Young farmers like them show there is a strong future for production agriculture here in the state.”

The Morrises will compete for the national title at the American Farm Bureau Convention in Orlando, Florida, in January 2016.

“I love to be able to talk to people about what we do,” said Ashley Morris, who is also an attorney. “This award gives us a bigger stage to advocate for agriculture.”

The couple farms about 2,300 acres of soybeans and corn near Rayville. They have three children, daughters Addison, 7, and Audrey, 2, and son Kimber, 5.
