News - Directors Re-elected to Land Bank Board

Louisiana Land Bank stockholders recently re-elected Cullen Kovac of Oak Grove, La. and Edward Patrick of Lake Providence, La. to the lending cooperative’s board of directors. Both directors will serve three-year terms.

A member of the Louisiana Land Bank board since 2012, Kovac serves as chairperson of the Governance committee. He is a self-employed cattle rancher whose cow/calf and stocker operation includes 4,800 acres. He is also a 50% partner in Kovac Cattle, LLC, a 2,600 beef cow operation. Mr. Kovac is a member of the boards of the West Carroll Farm Bureau, Pioneer Farmers Coop and Fiske Union Water System. He is also chairperson of the West Carroll Soil and Water Conservation District and is a member of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association. He won the Louisiana Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award and was named the Northeast Louisiana Agribusiness Council Outstanding Young Agricultural Producer in 2009. Mr. Kovac placed in the top 10 of America’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 2013, previously served on the Louisiana Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher state board and attended the 2010 Farm Credit System Young Leaders Program. He recently was highlighted by FCC Services in their “Producing Excellence” Program.

Edward “Ed” Patrick, Jr.

Patrick has been a member of the board since 1994. He is a resident of Lake Providence, La. and is a self-employed farmer who farms with his father and son in an operation that includes 3,250 acres of cotton, rice, corn and soybeans. He is president of Joe’s Bayou Farm Supply and part owner and operator of Joe’s Bayou Gin serving as its vice president. Mr. Patrick is also a board member of the East Carroll Farm Bureau. He is a member of the Louisiana Rice Growers Association and the Louisiana Cotton and Grain Association.


Donald Berken

The Louisiana Land Bank stockholders recently elected Mr. Donald Berken as a board director to represent the Crowley Branch territory. Mr. Berken is a self-employed farmer whose operation includes 1,000 acres of rice and soybeans. He is also the president of Berken Farms, Inc., a family corporation that owns and manages other farm properties. Mr. Berken serves as vice chairperson of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Rice Advisory Committee and is a board member and treasurer of the Jeff Davis Farm Bureau where he has served as president for 12 years. He is a director of the Louisiana Rice Research Board, the Louisiana Soybean, Wheat and Feedgrains Board, the Louisiana Rice Board, Jeff Davis Rice Growers, and the Louisiana Agricultural Commodities Commission. He also served two four-year terms on the Louisiana Farm Bureau Board and currently serves on the PAC Committee of the USA Rice Federation and the USA Rice Federation Regulatory Affairs and Food Safety Committee where he is vice chairperson.

Robert J. “Bobby” Soileau

The Louisiana Land Bank board of directors recently appointed Mr. Bobby Soileau to the board. Mr. Soileau is the director of Agricultural Leadership for the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center (LSU AgCenter). He oversees the leadership programs for people in agriculture and agribusiness and the LSU agriculture faculty. He has a bachelor’s in broadcast journalism and a master’s and doctoral degrees in agricultural education and leadership from LSU. In addition to his current duties, he worked in television and public relations for over 22 years. Mr. Soileau has served as an officer and board member of numerous organizations in agriculture and his community of Zachary, Louisiana. In addition, he is a member of the International Association of Programs for Agricultural Leadership. Mr. Soileau received the Achievement Award from the Louisiana County Agricultural Agents Association and the Agricultural Communicator of the Year Award from the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation.
